A billionaire lived on 6 continents. When he made his fortune, he chose 2 places to call home.

David von Rosen was interviewed by Business Insider about the places that have shaped his life and career, and why he has chosen to split his time between Switzerland and the UAE.

In the article, David reflects on a life spent across six continents, from his childhood in rural Germany to time in the US, Argentina, Australia, South Africa, Gibraltar, Costa Rica, Dubai and Switzerland. He discusses how each location offered something different, from education and early career experiences to family life, entrepreneurship and lifestyle.

David explains that, after building Lottoland and stepping back from day-to-day operations, he and his family had the freedom to think carefully about where they wanted to live. For him, the combination of Verbier and Dubai offers the ideal balance: outdoor living, family life and international community in Switzerland, alongside energy, ambition and business opportunity in the UAE.

He also notes that no single place can offer everything. While both Switzerland and Dubai are known for favourable tax environments, David emphasises that tax should not be the deciding factor when choosing where to live. Instead, he points to quality of life, opportunity, family needs and personal fulfilment as the factors that make the two-location lifestyle so compelling.

"I came to realize that there's probably no single place to live that ticks all the boxes. That's why, if you have the freedom to live in more than one place, it can be a wise decision."
