Big business can still innovate – by adding startup leaders to the C-suite

In this article for TNW, David von Rosen argues that large, established companies can reignite innovation by appointing startup leaders to their C-suites.

Von Rosen highlights that while startups often hire corporate veterans to scale, the reverse is rare and this is holding big businesses back. He points to examples like IBM and Kodak, where bureaucratic inertia slowed innovation and left them vulnerable to more agile competitors.

He contends that startup leaders bring fresh ideas, market instincts, and a culture of experimentation that can overcome corporate groupthink and silos. By giving these leaders real autonomy and resources, von Rosen says, large companies can capture emerging opportunities, accelerate innovation, and stay competitive in the age of rapid technological change.

"I’m an entrepreneur and investor – I build and back startups. I love seeing them disrupt industries. But there’s no reason industries can’t be disrupted by the incumbents too. The competitiveness would benefit everyone."
