For entrepreneurs, the best way to hone their skills is through extreme sports

David von Rosen wrote an article for Business Punk, discussing his passion for extreme sports and the part this has played in his entrepreneurial success.

In the article, David draws several parallels between entrepreneurship and extreme sports, explaining that the lessons learned in one area can be applied to the other.

“The path of the entrepreneur is an uncertain and perilous one. Instead of fighting risk, you have to learn to work with it.”

Learning to embrace risk and use it to sharpen decision-making is one such lesson. Von Rosen explains that pushing himself out of his comfort zone while practicing extreme sports has enabled him to attune his entrepreneurial skills to highly pressurized environments. This helped him navigate the uncertainty of entrepreneurship when his own money, time, and career were on the line.

He detailed the story of his first wing-suiting experience, explaining he was so scared that he almost told the helicopter pilot to turn around. But the experience of pushing through that fear and winning against his inner self was hugely beneficial.

“When you win against your inner self, against your core fears, then you have reached the next level - whether you’re descending a mountain at high speed or building and scaling the next Apple.”

Ultimately, David argues that taking risks rewards you, both as an athlete and as an entrepreneur.
