ESS News has reported that Eco Stor (a VONROSEN portfolio company) has broken ground on Germany’s largest battery storage project, a 300 MW / 714 MWh facility now under construction in Förderstedt, Saxony-Anhalt.
The project surpasses previous records for storage capacity and marks a major scale-up for the company, following recent commissioning and construction of other large-scale sites in northern Germany. High-level representatives from state government, industry associations, and grid operator 50Hertz attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
According to ESS News, the facility will be built on an eight-hectare site and developed in three independently operated blocks, enabling phased commissioning. The project includes the construction of a new 110 kV substation and is fully privately financed by investors, including NIC and X-Elio, with no public funding involved.
The report highlights Eco Stor’s strong collaboration with regional authorities and 50Hertz to address grid-connection challenges. The company also emphasized the project’s local economic impact, including that 90% of business tax revenues will remain with the municipality of Staßfurt.
