German billionaire David von Rosen is taking risks with his family office

Edwin Smith of Spear’s Magazine spoke to David von Rosen and has written a profile piece covering David's entrepreneurial journey, his appetite for calculated risk and the evolution of his family office, VONROSEN.

The profile traces von Rosen’s path from early ventures in student financing and consumer retail to Lottoland, the online lottery betting platform that helped establish his fortune. It also highlights the role of risk-taking in his career, from building businesses in highly competitive sectors to pursuing demanding personal challenges.

In at least a couple of notable ways, von Rosen defies the stereotype of a family office principal. For one thing, he says he personally reads many of the cold investment pitches that are sent through the VONROSEN website. Another is that he describes himself as ‘completely industry-agnostic’.

The article explores von Rosen’s move away from the day-to-day running of Lottoland and his growing focus on direct investments through VONROSEN. These include public equities, minority stakes in private companies and larger positions in businesses where he believes he can have a meaningful impact.

Spear’s also highlights several areas of current interest, including Dubai real estate through 25 Degrees, defence technology, sustainable energy and water-related opportunities. The piece positions von Rosen as an entrepreneur and investor seeking to broaden his portfolio while applying the same curiosity and conviction that have shaped his career to date.
