David von Rosen was quoted in an Economist article about Switzerland’s decisive rejection of a proposed federal inheritance tax on the super-rich.
In the article, von Rosen said inheritance tax is “very unfair and unjust”. He argued that entrepreneurs who build businesses, work hard, and pay taxes during their lives should not be penalised when passing on their wealth to the next generation.
The article reported that Swiss voters rejected the proposed 50% federal inheritance tax by 78% to 22%. However, The Economist noted that the referendum still prompted concern among wealthy residents about Switzerland’s long-term tax environment. Von Rosen, who made his fortune with Lottoland and is already based partly in Dubai, said he may move there entirely if Swiss taxes rise.
